Wind of Hope is a 220-page book segmented into 10 CHAPTERS – each focusing on a particular aspect of the life and times of President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan.
Each chapter seeks to bring to the fore, the story and unique character traits of a man who rose from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of the country’s political structure.
Several interviews featuring the president himself, his family and close friends/associates were conducted alongside in-depth research, all aimed at revealing who Dr. Goodluck Jonathan really is, his experiences, how he thinks and what he believes in.

The emergence of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to world recognition is perhaps the most spectacular paradox in Nigeria’s political history to date. It is the paradox of a man of humble, unassuming mien – an introvert content to do his best and leave the rest to God to dispose – who, in a meteoric rise beyond human comprehension, was catapulted to the pinnacle of power. This development, as a matter of course, has elicited great curiosity about his person and has generated discourse in the minds of people, not only locally but in international circles.
Wind of Hope is a work to meet the compelling need to assuage this curiosity generated in the minds of millions on the man Jonathan.

To the casual observer, Jonathan’s spectacular story is attributed simply to goodluck.

A boy who was focused, too-wise-for-his-age and determined right from his childhood; a man whose quiet and unassuming disposition always stood him out; a man whose humility, honesty and hardwork served him well as a great fortress of strength in the face of turbulence.

This is Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, son of a canoe carver and who, but for the grace of God, would have become one himself. The young Goodluck, at about the age of 10 ran into the bush when for the first time he heard a vehicle approaching. This is the same Goodluck Jonathan who God imbued with the wisdom and courage to preside over the affairs of Nigeria during one of the country’s most politically trying periods.
This is the story of a man, who went about bare-foot for the first twelve years of his life; who went to school and did farming and canoe-carving with his father; who exhibited glaring diligence combined with studied humility all through; who was a beacon of honour celebrated by colleagues and superiors wherever he passed through; who displayed uncommon loyalty to his bosses at every turn…

This is the story of a boy who, all alone, paddled a canoe all day long on an empty stomach; a boy who fell trees in his mother’s farm and did the thatch roofs of his grandfather’s huts. This is a student who, in his sterling diligence was made prefect of the prefects; who from his scholarship money helped in the education of his elder sister; who gave the only radio he had as a worker to a friend.
This is the story of a deputy governor who stuck to his embattled boss to the point of being removed with him; a vice president who never thought of undermining his ailing boss even when he was surrounded by powerful, scheming enemies. This is the story of a man who marched through the bombs and militancy in the Niger Delta and made his mark on a successful salvage mission; a man who was stoic and calm in the midst of raging storms and high-wire conspiracy; a man who shed tears over the travails of his two political bosses; a man of steel, yet a man with a compassionate heart…

This is the story of a man who has been thrown up as a vessel of honour in the hands of the Almighty God and seen by many as the vehicle which God intends to use to bring succour, healing and comfort to the long-suffering, downtrodden masses of Nigeria. He is being referred to as A Breath of Fresh Air
Goodluck Jonathan today represents the hope of millions of Nigerian Children that even if they do not have influential godfathers, with hard work, diligence, honesty of purpose and faith in God, they too can rise to the highest position in the land.
